Some questions regarding fashion have never been resolved. For instance, does fashion serve to conceal one’s identity, to hide behind layers of fabric so that this fashion identity replaces our “real” identity, or does it, on the contrary, reveal and especially highlight our “real” identity? It seems that it’s neither one nor the other, because real identities are not a matter of our decision (they are always, in some way, assigned), and thus cannot be concealed or revealed. But there is a third option: fashion as a form of defense and protection precisely from those assigned identities, such as the identity assigned to an artist. Predrag Nešković, the famous painter and “new dandy,” designed his fashion collection from garment covers, a material used to conceal clothing. This collection is a response to our social milieu and its imposed identities. On the runway, it will be showcased by models with covered faces.
