Author Jakov Simović, a long-time successful photographer for numerous Belgrade magazines and cultural-artistic events, is exhibiting 13 works created over the past six years. The exhibition features large-format photographs depicting people from different professions and sensitivities, captured in specially designed settings with one common motif—the flag of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.
“My desire is to take only the element of the Yugoslavia symbol, which, of course, had its bad but also good sides, and emphasize the symbol of unity in diversity, which still exists today. Today, we are unsupportive people influenced by sociological conditions that have led us to behave rudely in order to fight for our place under the sky. However, I deeply believe, and I am certain, that among us are new pioneers of truth and sincerity. These are the Yugoslavs of today, and the flag has been handed to us to fight for love for diversity and to search for beauty in everyone. My desire is for us to see and hear each other, to learn from one another, and to respect each other. Maybe my ideals are utopian, but I believe we have become too distant from one another and have drifted too far, too close to capitalist tones. Why can’t we just find balance?” — Jakov Simović, exhibition photographer.
The exhibition will be open from May 25th to May 30th, 2022.
