The Design Study Program, Master’s Academic Studies at the Faculty of Applied Arts, belongs to the field of Art, in the areas of Applied Arts and Design. The program enables future students to achieve competencies and academic skills in the field of design, building upon the previous education acquired during undergraduate studies. Within the program, students develop the ability to independently conduct artistic-research work, as well as to continue their professional and personal development.

The Textiles module program encourages the development and enhancement of skills for initiating and independently conducting research, functional and aesthetic design, the design of woven, knitted, printed, and specialty-performance textiles, as well as individual creative work in the field of tapestry and textile art. It also stimulates the development of skills in designing both unique and industrial textiles, through the synthesis of advanced knowledge and practical skills with the use of digital tools, along with the improvement of critical thinking in the context of conceptualizing, realizing, and presenting one’s own ideas, and developing personal artistic potential in individual creative work.

All six master’s theses, presented at the exhibition Masters of Textile Design 2019–2024, belong to the field of woven and knitted textile design and were realized in collaboration with the companies Ivković d.o.o. (IVKO Woman, Boleč) and Tarkett (Tarkett d.o.o.; Bačka Palanka). The authors based their artistic-research work on specific design projects, respecting the parameters of industrial production, with a written treatment of the professional and artistic issues defined by the theme, subject, and goal of the master’s thesis.

Dr. Art. Zlatko Cvetković, Associate Professor

Cveta Šebez Jovanović

The author of the master’s thesis analyzes the design of garment knitwear in industrial production conditions through numerous sketches, machine-knitted pieces (swatches), and one garment. The design elements are based on motifs from fabrics used in the creation of the traditional Japanese garment – the kimono. These elements are characterized by simplicity and multiplicity, created with black and white yarns and their blends. (Z.C.)

Sara Tomić (Konatar)

The author focuses in her master’s thesis on the creation of flat and structured knitwear, drawing inspiration for the design from the formations of semi-precious and precious stones. The product of the selected design concepts consists of several knit pieces – swatches, some of which were used to create three garments. (Z.C.)

Milica Đorđević

Starting from Street Art and the artists who base their work on it, the author constructs a series of horizontally elongated compositions for an industrially knitted panel intended for the retail space of Ivković (IVKO Woman) in the Galerija shopping center – Belgrade. The completed composition is 7 meters in length and 1.4 meters in height, composed of machine-knitted stripes made from black yarn and multicolored jacquard, on which her design is displayed as a response to the defined theme. (Z.C.)

Angelina Krstić

The Orphism and particularly the work of Sonia Delaunay (1885–1979) served as the source of inspiration for the author’s design of knitted pieces (swatches) intended for the creation of women’s coats. In the design development, the guiding principles were not used literally, but through the adoption of some of their artistic values, which were then adapted to the designer’s personal preferences and fashion trends. (Z.C.)

Aleksandra Pavlović

The mini collection of three carpets by the author was created in the Mondo palette (Mondo) of the Tarket company (TARKETT) and represents the result of research into the expressive potential of natural textures and structures in shaping carpet compositions. Traces and prints originating from natural elements serve as the backbone of the design solutions, combined with the freehand drawing of the designer. (Z.C.)

Ksenija Zarubica

The design style of the Marimekko company (Marimekko, Finland), adapted to the author’s sensibility, was used for a mini collection of three carpets created in the Play palette of the Tarket company. The contrasting compositions are based on personally created elements, visions of stylized flora and fauna in combination with geometric forms, while respecting the character and specific patterns of the Marimekko designs.
